Many people that suffer from chronic physical and mental ailments struggle their entire lives searching for reprieve without finding it. Fortunately, it has been shown that medicinal cannabis is able to assist in the treatment of a multitude of different afflictions. However, laws regarding legal marijuana are varied all across the country, from full legalization to criminal penalties for possession. The Texas Compassionate Use Program has afforded citizens of this great state the opportunity to get medical prescriptions from doctors if they have a qualifying condition. About the Program
Passed into law in 2015, The Texas Compassionate Use Act made it legal for physicians who are properly registered with the state through their program to prescribe their patients medicinal cannabis for assistance in treating epilepsy. Over the years, the list of illnesses has been expanded, allowing more patients the opportunity to access prescriptions. For many, this meant relief from symptoms that they had been suffering from for much of their lives. It also demonstrated a significant change in the state’s attitude towards the substance.

Which Doctors Qualify?
In order to be able to offer their patients the opportunity to obtain medicinal marijuana from their doctor in Texas, physicians must register with the state. This is in order to ensure that professionals that are educated on the substance and its effects are the ones handling its medical use. Previously, only neurologists were qualified to distribute medical cannabis, but the requirements have expanded in previous years, much like the list of conditions. Today, any board-certified physician can register with the state under the Compassionate Use Registry of Texas (CURT) to use this treatment to help their patients.
